The Meta Quest 3: A Major Leap in Mixed Reality
I just received the new Meta Quest 3! Even though I already have the Quest 2, what motivated me to get the Quest 3 is its capability for mixed reality application development. I believe that this capability marks a before and after in this type of augmented reality technology.
While the Quest Pro or those from Apple already offer mixed reality technology, Meta has managed to produce a high-quality product for all budgets.
Another aspect that I find very interesting is the hand recognition, and that they themselves are the controls. I am also very interested in checking whether it is possible to work with the virtual monitors that it is capable of providing.
As soon as I test them out, I’ll share my first impressions!
Virtual Reality vs Mixed Reality
For those who are not familiar with these terms, it is important to clarify the difference between virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR). Virtual reality is a technology that allows us to immerse ourselves completely in a digital world. With VR glasses like the Quest 3, the user gets the feeling of being physically present in an environment different from the real one.
On the other hand, mixed reality is a combination of virtual reality and augmented reality. In an MR environment, the user can see and interact with both the real and the virtual world simultaneously. This allows for the creation of richer and more immersive experiences, where digital elements can interact with the real environment.
