My experience trying out Meta Quest 3 for work
I have recently been testing the Meta Quest 3 with a particular focus: using them for work. The idea of having multiple desktops in virtual reality is intriguing, and I decided to put it to the test. Here I share my impressions with you.
Meta Quest Browser
The Meta Quest Browser is the built-in web browser in the Meta Quest 3. It allows you to create as many windows as you want, which is useful considering that almost all the applications we use today are served through the web.
The Connection with the PC
To connect the glasses to our PC, it is necessary to install a companion app on our Mac or Windows. This app is free and can be obtained from the official Meta website.
Remote Desktop
The first app I tried was “Remote Desktop”, which is free and can be installed from the Meta Marketplace. Connecting with the desktop is very simple; it just detects the desktop and asks for confirmation to connect. However, one downside I found is that it only allows one remote desktop, even if you have more than one screen on your PC.
Meta Horizon Workrooms
Finally, I tried Meta Horizon Workrooms (Beta). This application is much more comprehensive and allows us to configure a virtual office to our liking. We can even have a meeting space for calls with our colleagues. Additionally, it allows us to have up to 3 desktops.
Wireless Keyboards
An interesting feature is the ability to connect our wireless keyboards so that the glasses also recognize them. I know people who already take the glasses along with their laptop to work.
Future Tests
Although I have not tried this yet, I am looking forward to doing it to see how it works and, above all, whether or not it increases productivity. However, to do this, I will need to connect the glasses permanently to a power source, as the Quest 3 consumes a considerable amount of battery.
Conclusion
In conclusion, although the idea of working with the glasses sounds good, I still need to do more tests. I will keep you informed!
