First Artificial Intelligence Congress in Granada

The first Artificial Intelligence Congress took place in the historic city of Granada on the 22nd and 23rd of November 2023. Despite being a political initiative, this event is a crucial step if Granada wants to become a benchmark as an Artificial Intelligence hub.

The congress had up to four tracks, which turned out to be excessive. The quality of the presentations was not uniform, which made it clear that quantity was prioritized over quality.

ChatGPT made a star appearance in one out of every two talks, demonstrating once more its predominance in the field of AI.

In addition to the four official tracks, a special edition of Databeers Granada about Artificial Intelligence took place in the central area. Databeers is an informal event where people talk about data projects while enjoying a beer. It was exciting to see them at the Congress, but I hope that in future occasions they will have their own room, as there was too much noise with all the people in the corridors.

Although this first congress showed some organizational and focus problems, I am hopeful that it will settle and improve in terms of quality and impact over time.

I strongly believe that the particle accelerator can be the catalyst that Artificial Intelligence in Granada needs. This powerful tool has the potential to drive research and development in this field, solidifying Granada’s position as a major AI center.
